The Amadiba coastal area encompasses much of the Pondoland Centre of Endemism.

The Maputaland-Pondoland-Albany Hotspot is one of 34 recognized biodiversity hotspots in the world. The MPAH is the second richest flori​​stic region in southern Africa, and in the Pondoland Centre of Endemism can be found nearly 2400 plant species of which nearly 200 are endemic to the area. The coastal waters of this hotspot, constitute the Pondoland Marine Protected Area and are significant at a global level for their diversity of marine species.

Man and Biosphere Reserve –SWC is working with stakeholders to achieve Man and Biosphere Reserve status for the Pondoland Wild Coast.
