Through a Stewardship Agreement with local villages SWC supports a community built school in Mtentu village catering for Grades 0 and 1. This school was built as the government school which is supposed to cater for these children is 7 kilometers away which is too far for small children to walk.
The teachers are 2 local women selected by the community who are paid a small stipend through a private donation. They are being trained and mentored through a partnership with the Nelson Mandela Institute. Private funding has also provided furniture for the 2 classrooms. In return for this assistance the community have agreed to a grassland burning regime that conserves rather than denudes the grasslands.
